PRODUCTION CAPABILITIES — FINISHING

Die-cutting and finishing, three ways.

Bobst die-cutting with in-line stripping and embossing for production runs, hand-fed die-cutting for short-run and awkward shapes, hand finishing for intricate work — every job at our 40,000 sq ft Stockport factory.

From production line to hand finished.

Different jobs need different finishing. A 50,000-carton retail run needs a Bobst production line that die-cuts, strips, and embosses in a single high-speed pass. A 250-piece bespoke POS run needs a hand-fed die-cutter that handles awkward shapes economically. A premium gift box with a hand-glued seam needs human hands. We run all three tiers under one roof in Stockport, so the right job goes through the right kit — no compromises, no outsourcing.

THE FINISHING FLOOR

Three tiers of finishing, in-house.

PRODUCTION RUNS

Bobst die-cutting line

Die cutting, stripping, and in-line embossing in a single pass. Engineered for high-volume retail orders without compromise on register accuracy. The fastest path from printed sheet to finished carton at scale.

SHORT RUNS · AWKWARD SHAPES

Hand-fed die-cutting

Smaller machines for jobs the Bobst line isn’t economical for — typically bespoke runs, intricate die forms, non-standard sheet sizes, or sample production. Set up faster, run smaller volumes cost-effectively.

INTRICATE · BESPOKE

Hand finishing

For smaller, premium jobs where the structure or finish needs human judgement — twist-locks that need careful tucking, hand-glued seams, complex assembly, foil application, fine detail work. Where the machine stops, our team takes over.

Cut to spec, every time.

Die-cutting holds to sub-millimetre register tolerance against the printed sheet — colour-managed at the press, structurally accurate at the die. Whether the job runs 50,000 on the Bobst line or 250 on the hand-fed, the spec is the spec. Our work is ISO 9001:2015 quality-managed end-to-end, FSC-certified for material chain-of-custody, and produced in our Made in Britain Stockport facility.

Examples: ‘Combined three finishing operations in a single Bobst pass to cut two days from the schedule’; ‘Hand-finished 500 premium gift cartons with foil embossing and hand-glued seams in under 48 hours.’ ]”

Common questions.

What die-cutting capabilities do you have?
Three tiers. A Bobst production-line die-cutter for high-volume runs (with in-line stripping and embossing in a single pass), hand-fed die-cutting machines for short-run and awkward shapes, and hand finishing for intricate or bespoke work. Each job goes through the tier that’s most cost-effective for the run length and complexity.
Do you offer in-line embossing?
Yes — embossing runs in-line on the Bobst die-cutting line, in the same pass as cutting and stripping. That removes the need for a separate embossing setup, saving time and tightening register against the printed surface. [TBC — confirm sculpted vs single-level embossing range.]
Can you handle complex die-cuts (twist-locks, intricate shapes)?
Yes. Twist-locks, crash-locks, intricate retail forms, and non-standard die shapes all run on either the Bobst line (for volume) or our hand-fed machines (for short runs and awkward formats). Our cardboard engineering team designs the die structures alongside the finish job.
How do you handle short-run vs production-run finishing?
Production runs go through the Bobst line — fast set-up, fast throughput, in-line stripping and embossing. Short runs (typically under [TBC threshold]) go through hand-fed machines — slower throughput but quicker setup and economical at lower volumes. Bespoke or intricate jobs get hand finishing. We match the tier to the job.
What's the typical lead time from die approval to despatch?
Most jobs move from die approval to finishing within [X] working days, depending on tier and current scheduling. Production-run timelines are tighter than hand-finishing timelines because the Bobst line throughput is much higher.
